The first plots are sold

While the opening of a burial ground is generally a low key event, we were very pleased at our opening day in March 2012 to sell the first plot reservations to Charfield residents. We trust they shall not be needed for some time yet, and we’re also grateful for the compliments and kind words of support we received from the folk who visited the site. It’s been an inspiring journey from inception to creation, and the Burial Authority has confidence that our vision will be realised as the plantings and meadow establishment come into their own.

Snowdrops

When we made the pedestrian entry into the burial ground, we were forced to remove some soil in which snowdrops had been planted by folk living in Churchend. Where reasonably practicable we relocated them to the adjacent verges, and we’re very happy to note their return. Snowdrops represent some of the first signs of returning life after the winter and as the Sun gains strength they are a welcome promise of warmer times to come.

As we continue towards our official opening day of Spring Equinox 2012 all the various aspects of the burial ground are coming together. Today we are very pleased to upload the scale of charges and the rules and regulations for our burial ground. Further minor changes may take place between now and the opening, but in general these documents are finalised.

Wild Service Tree is planted

One of the features we wanted to embed into our burial ground was a Wild Service Tree.

Requested by South Gloucestershire County Council as part of the landscape plan, it is a relatively rare native tree, with white flowers in the spring and red berries in the autumn, when the normally green leaves also go a delightful russet red.

The tree was purchased and planted through The Druid Network’s tree planting fund.
